The sport bible is back with its annual preview of the 2017-18 college basketball season.
This year, we’re taking a look at which UF guys have the potential to be the next NBA draft bust.
And with the NBA season set to begin on Thursday, we thought we’d take a look back at some of the last-place teams and see if there’s a player in the league that can fill the void.
With a new era of college basketball beginning, there’s been a lot of talk about how the new era could affect the NCAA Tournament, and that’s a good thing.
As the sport continues to evolve, it can only help to give us a clearer picture of the sport’s prospects for the future.
This is a time of great uncertainty for college basketball and we hope this preview will help us keep an eye on the situation as it unfolds.
We’ve seen plenty of talented players in the last few years.
Just look at the names of the 2016 class, which was loaded with top-10 picks.
There were four seniors in the group: Tyler Ulis, Kris Dunn, Jahlil Okafor and Jordan Mickey.
The list of potential top-five picks in the 2017 class is just as impressive, including Joel Embiid, Jalen Brunson, DeAndre Ayton and Tyler Uliss.
There was also plenty of high-profile talent on that list, including Marcus Paige, D’Angelo Russell, Tyus Jones, Luke Kennard and Malik Monk.
With this group of players, UF should be a force in the tournament.
UF’s first two NCAA tournament appearances were in 2016 and 2017, but it was the 2017 season that really cemented UF as one of the country’s best teams.
The Gators finished first in the SEC East in each of those seasons, and the last time they made the tournament in back-to-back years was in 2018.
UFFs last two NCAA tournaments came in 2017 and 2018, which were both the first two seasons of the new college basketball era.
It’s a trend that’s been going on for a while now.
In the last two years, there has been a resurgence in the number of top-15 recruits coming out of Florida.
The UF recruiting class was the No. 1 recruiting class of the season, and there were a lot more recruits in that class than the one from a year ago.
With this group, UFF has a chance to make it to the NCAA tourney for the first time since the 2016-17 season.
And there are a lot going on with that group of guys that are in the final year of their contracts, as well as the fact that there’s more turnover in recruiting from year to year.
It’s a bit of a different situation this year, as it’s possible the recruiting class could fall to the Gators in the first round, as we’re currently predicting.
But UF could have a chance at making the NCAA TOURNAMENT.
There are plenty of young players who could have an impact on the Gators, including Jahlill Okaon, Marcus Paige and Jamal Murray.
All three of those players are projected as the top-three picks in this year’s draft, so UFF could potentially have a shot at making it to that tournament as well.
It was clear in the 2016 season that UF was going to be a major force in college basketball for years to come.
And now, we’ve seen some of those same players make a name for themselves in the NBA, and UF has a great shot at landing the best player in this class.
We know that there are many players who can be elite in the draft.
But UF needs to add a few pieces in the recruiting department to really challenge for the top spot in the country.
It has to be elite on both ends of the floor, and we need to have a team of players that are able to create opportunities for others on the floor and in the locker room.
We’ll continue to monitor the recruiting process this summer and get a better sense of what kind of players the Gators could have in the future, but for now, they’re a very real threat to make the tournament and get into the NCAA Championship.
The top-ranked recruiting class in the nation, with the No.
“Trent Isom” recruiting class, was ranked No. 2 in the NCAA by Scout.com, and it was also one of only three players in that top-50 class to not sign a scholarship offer.
UFS had four prospects in the class that were rated as the No1 and No.2 players, and they are expected to sign.
Uf could be one of those teams.
